Welcome to Merino and Erica’s New Smyrna Beach family pictures! I love this sweet family so much!

I have had the pleasure of knowing Erica and Merino since 2018… back when they were newly engaged!

They were looking for a photographer for their wedding and as soon as we met, we knew we were meant to work together, or rather become friends!

From their engagement session in 2018, their son’s one-year-old cake smash in 2020, their micro wedding in the fall of the same year, a two year old cake smash in 2021 just days before I went into labor with my own daughter, their bigger wedding celebration/vow renewal that fall, and then the birth of their second son in 2022!

We have done SO many photo sessions together…

… and I am incredibly honored to have been a part of so many of their family’s big milestones!

The birth of their third kiddo, a little girl, is just one of the milestones we celebrated during their New Smyrna Beach family pictures session!

Isn’t she the cutest?!

If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know that I moved from Syracuse, NY (think upstate, with corn fields, hills, and cows!) to Florida about a year and a half ago. This, of course, is where Erica and Merino are also from.

You might think Erica and Merino were merely enjoying a vacation in Florida and contacted me about taking photos for them, much like many of my friends from upstate NY do! This is only partly true.

The real reason they came to Florida on a visit is because they’re MOVING here! They needed to get a lay of the land before the pack up all their belongings in July and completely relocate!

So, you see, this photo session wasn’t just to celebrate the birth of their daughter, but also to announce their big move!

*

Once again, I was so honored to be a part of this milestone with them!

I’ve decided that photographing New Smyrna Beach family pictures at golden hour/sunset is one of my favorite things!

From the neutral colors of the sand and sky, the overall warm, golden tones of the photos and the blue and turquoise of the ocean… this combination just makes me want to dance!

There’s nothing quite like watching a kiddo playing in the sand! It’s the simple things in life!

New Smyrna Beach Ocean

As the sun began to set and the light softened, it gave us the ideal timeframe for capturing photos against the backdrop of the ocean!

Anyone who hangs out with me for five minutes knows that a beautiful blue-green is my favorite color so it’s no surprise that these ocean pictures are probably my favorite out of the whole session!

Oh, the smiles from little Miss A!

I don’t know if you noticed that the boy’s shirts say, “Here comes the sun” and their sister’s outfit has the cutest sunshine pattern on it!

Totally perfect for announcing that you’re moving to the sunshine state!

*

Erica and Merino are amazing troopers! I know what it’s like to have a handful of little kids (most of them boys!) and so I know how busy they are!

I also know how much they love their kiddos!

*

I can’t wait to see what God has in store for you all here in Florida! I look forward to doing many more photos with you guys. I really couldn’t be more excited that you’re moving! Welcome to the Sunshine State!

    Tips for new to FL-
Change your mindset. Summers are unbelievably hot. If you are not in water, you don’t want to be outside during the day so you plan lots of indoor activities, like visiting, children’s museums ( Orlando Science Center is fabulous)and save all of your outdoor living activities for November through May.!!

Janet, these are amazing tips! Our first summer here in FL I took the kids to the beach. We lasted maybe two hours. All your suggestions are great! Thanks for sharing!
