Mike’s Proposal | Syracuse Marriott Downtown
Can I just tell you how honored I am to be able to share with you Mike and Savannah’s Syracuse proposal photography blog post??! It is ALWAYS an honor to be allowed into a family and friend’s inner circle on a couple’s wedding day but to be able to witness a proposal… might just be next level. I think it’s next level because a wedding is a social gathering, a party. But a proposal is usually a very small, intimate event, often with just the guy asking his girl if she’ll marry him!
Just a few months ago, Mike reached out to me via my website to inquire about my availability to document his proposal to Savannah! Oh my gosh… yes! Let me clear my schedule!
Mike had rented The Ambassador Room at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown previously known as the Hotel Syracuse for his proposal. Mike along with Savannah’s sister Sydney, planned a sweet intimate party with Savannah’s family members, some decadent sweets and champagne! Don’t you just love what the cake below from Mario’s Bakery said??!
Mike told Savannah he wanted to take her out to a nice dinner. On their way to the hotel, Savannah texted Sydney and said, “Mike just suggested I take my watch off. Do you think he’s going to propose?!” I was standing there with Sydney and their mom when the text came in and we all looked at each other, wide eyed. “What should I say?!” Sydney asked. Before we could answer, Sydney crafted a witty response, “He’d better not propose. I want to be there for it! If he does, tell him to stop and try again when I’m there”. PERFECT! Crisis averted.
I think once Savannah walked into the room and saw her family members standing there, she started to catch on. Mike took her hand and led her up to the front of the room and got down on one knee.
No commentary from me is needed… pictures are worth 1,000 words.
I’m not crying, YOU’RE crying! 😉
The Celebration
What a celebration there was with Savannah’s family! Her mom was all teary eyed. It was the perfect opportunity to pop some champagne!
Savannah and Sydney… sisters!
Mike ordered a red velvet cake from Mario’s and they said it was delicious! Perhaps that’s one thing checked off their to do list… wedding cake bakery, check!
Engagement Photos
Once Mike and Savannah were ready, I had the incredible opportunity to take them outside for engagement photos! There’s nothing like photographing a couple that had just gotten engaged only moments before!
The joy, the smiles, the emotion… so real and fresh! Oh my gosh, how can this be my job?! Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. Sure it’s work, but it’s so enjoyable and fulfilling! For me, it’s the best. job. ever!
Friends. Forever.
Check out the amazing ring Mike picked out!
As Mike and Savannah were celebrating with their family, I had the chance to chat with one of Savannah’s family members. If I got the story straight, Mike first noticed Savannah at a bar, all dressed up, just coming from an event. He made the first move (brave guy!) and I guess the rest is history! I’ll have to get the whole story from these two later!!! 🙂
Just across the street from the Marriott Syracuse Downtown is this incredible looking church! Nine years ago, when I worked my 9-5 desk job in downtown Syracuse, I started my photography business on the side. Photography was my passion and yet I still kept plugging away at my desk job but dreaming about the day I could run my own business full time. I’d walk by this church and think, “that would be a cool spot for pictures!” And so even though I took my business full time a year later, it wasn’t until last week that I returned to photograph in that very spot. Such a cool feeling.
Aren’t these two just the cutest?!
They were such good sports to let me take so many photos of them! It was hot that evening and in the middle of dinner time.
Mike was so cute… he actually apologized to Savannah that there wasn’t actually any dinner to be eaten, just desserts.
But Mike knows Savannah so well. He KNEW she loves pictures and would definitely want Syracuse proposal photography to capture the moment. In fact, when he told her mom that he’d be proposing, one of her first questions was, “did you get a photographer?” Mike responded, “already thought of that!” He knows what she wanted!
Thank you Mike, Savannah and family for allowing me to be a part of your sweet proposal. I am beyond honored and can’t wait to see what the future brings you two!
